Christians Against Poverty is a national debt counselling charity working through a network of centres based in local churches. CAP offers hope and a solution to anyone in debt through its unique, in depth service. Here at Skipton Baptist Church we became increasingly aware of the needs of many in our local community and made the decision to open a CAP Centre. This was no quick decision and involved the church raising sufficient funds to both open the centre and appoint a CAP Centre Manager - Steve Hulbert. It was in November 2011 that the centre opened. Since the opening of the centre we have had new clients asking for help every week, which means that week-by-week Steve is helping to change the lives of those folk.
Remarkably one client, a single mother with two young children has begun her journey to becoming debt free. This in itself isn't remarkable; this is why we opened the centre. What is remarkable is the fact that she has also begun another journey to meet Jesus. Prior to seeking the help of CAP she had no faith but decided to join an Alpha course in the area where she lives. She is now asking how she can become a Christian.
CAP aims to show God’s love in action by providing sustainable poverty relief through debt counselling, advice and practical help. CAP’s unique ‘hands on’ approach empowers people to help themselves out of poverty and be released from the fear, oppression and worry generated by overwhelming debts. We are providing sustainable poverty relief as our service teaches clients vital budgeting skills that will last a lifetime.
